Jaguanana Lathan, Ed.D.

CEO and Founder of New Generation Equity

Dr. Jag grew up in Oakland, California and the greater Bay Area, where her journey in education was shaped by firsthand experiences navigating a public school system marked by deep disparities. As a student, she witnessed the stark differences between classrooms, schools, and districts—experiences that fueled a lifelong commitment to transforming education into a joyful, inclusive, and high-expectation experience for every learner. She envisioned schools where all students, regardless of background, could thrive with the right support and opportunities—and where education served as a catalyst for improving lives and communities.

This vision has anchored Dr. Jag’s more than 20-year career as a leader in education. Her expertise spans classroom teaching, school site and county office of education administration, small schools and community schools design, executive coaching, and public service as an elected school board member. As the Founder and CEO of New Generation Equity®, Dr. Jag partners with schools, districts, and education-focused organizations to transform how systems serve students, families, and educators. With a focus on co-design, strategy, and capacity-building, she helps leaders reimagine structures that center student success, elevate leadership at every level, and deliver measurable, lasting change. Through consulting, coaching, and implementation support, New Generation Equity® builds the conditions where bold ideas become sustainable action.

“Effective equity work doesn’t happen in a vacuum. It’s the result of systems design.”

Dr. Jag holds a Doctorate and Master’s in Educational Leadership from Mills College, a Master’s in Special Education from National University, and a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from San Francisco State University.
