Who We Are

Equity is complex.

New Generation Equity acknowledges the historical impact and harm racism and systemic oppression play in our society. Uneven schooling in America, a lack of access to housing and green spaces, inequitable health care systems, school-to-prison pipeline, and a massive prison industrial complex are just a few examples of the disparities experienced by groups of people who have been historically and systematically disenfranchised ––

and all these adversely affect our most vulnerable youth.

Educational equity is possible through strong leadership, commitment, and bold action. We are about raising equity-consciousness and working together to make equity and systems work sustainable in your school or organization. We partner with you to design opportunities that lead to transformation, exceptional outcomes for all students, and lasting change.

We support educators to transform their systems into places of opportunity. This happens through the work of systems change: seeing the system and the outcomes it produces, creating the interconnections across people, structures, and processes, and understanding how it all works together to advantage some and disadvantage others. Effective equity work does not happen in a vacuum. It is the result of interrupting inequitable practices and intentional systems design.

Dr. Jaguanana “Jag” Lathan

“Transformational systems work challenges the brain. The brain wants to do what is comfortable, what it has always done. Our brain’s muscle memory is insidious. To make the changes our society needs, we must challenge our thinking and what we have always done.” - Dr. Jag
